Standard Chartered Bank is the title sponsor of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon – recognized as one of the world’s top 10 marathons and is India’s foremost platform for raising funds for causes close to our hearts.Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is one of the biggest platforms for raising funds for social causes – having raised nearly USD 8 Mn (INR 37cr) in its first six editions. It is now the largest event in India for raising funds for charity. This year’s campaign theme for the SCMM is ‘Run for a cause’ encouraging every participant to use the Marathon to support a cause close to their hearts. The funds generated through last year’s efforts helped bring about a radical change in the lives of many. SCMM not just raises funds, but also raises awareness among the people on various causes. This year SCMM will be featuring several causes in the campaign which Standard Chartered has been supporting over several years –Prevention of Blindness is one of these key causes.
We proudly announce Sightsavers International’s participation in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2010- the Greatest Race on Earth!Our 13 Sightsavers Colleagues are running for the noble cause.
In keeping with the theme, Standard Chartered has rolled out a “Seeing is Believing” fund raising challenge for its employees and customers. Mumbai Eye Care (MEC) Campaign in addition to providing benefit to 1 mn marginalized people is also targeting to raise awareness among the people of Mumbai on eye care. The SCMM2010 Expo has on an average 10k to 30k footfall over the 4-day exposure.
•Launched from 13th Jan (Wednesday) to 16th Jan ( Saturday) from 1000 hrs to 1900 hrs
•Venue – Expo Centre, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade
•The Expo is a venue where SCMM 2010 participants collect their running bib and timing chips. The Expo also showcases lifestyle, health and fitness, consumer durables and entertainment stalls.
•Creating awareness on avoidable blindness by handing out pamphlets that provide information on eye care and sensitization on visual impairement through ‘blind-folded games’ – shirt folding and smelling masalas.
•Seeking donation of eye sight which is a key initiative under the GoI’s National Programme for Control of Blindness. ( For 2008-2009 the provisional numbers of donated eye collected is at 1310 against at 2007 – 2008 collection of 38546 . source : www.india.gov.in)
The Marathon Expo 2010 was inaugarated by Cine Actors Rahul Bose and Tara Sharma.
