Shoe Polisher Event

Every day we travel by the train to our destination and every day we observe the very busiest group at every Railway station that is Shoe Polishers. Every day they give their efforts to shine our shoes and automatically our personality. KBHB Hospital organised an event for these shoe polishers and their family members . This group was associated with Ravidas Boot Polish Kamgar Co-operative Society Ltd, at Mumbai Central Railway Station. With great difficulty they were convinced to spare one day of their work for the camp.

97 shoe polishers and their families from which 48 got spectacles and 26 referred for further treatment in the hospital.
These types of events help KBHB to reach the actual unreached and needy population and cater their services through MEC.

Mumbai Eye Care Campaign

Eye health care in Mumbai and the rest of the country is in a sad & dismal state. WHO statics reveal "An adult goes blind every 5 seconds and a child succumbs to blindness every 60 seconds." Although 75% blindness is avoidable people continue to fall prey to blindness leading to poverty , eventually destroying families in large numbers.

A pilot project conducted by Sightsavers international along with Lotus College of optometry in the slums of Dharavi threw up disturbing facts about the state of eye health care in this densely populated area - specifically amongst women and children.

The Mumbai Eye Care Campaign was concieved to eradicate avoidable blindness caused due to "Refractive Error". We look to scan, treat and allot spectacles to 1.5 million slumdwellers of Mumbai and educate more than 10 million Mumbaikars about basic eye health care. This campaign will also target the popolation form the low socia- econimic group of taxi & rickshaw drivers, construction workers and domestic helps.
